Overview

Itasca Wines Limited (Itasca), is a Hampshire based vineyard and winery that produces fine English wines. The company has already planted its first vineyard, consisting of 16,000 vines and aim to plant a further 16,000 vines in May 2020. In parallel, the company is building a contract winemaking facility to service the growing UK demand for winemaking services.

While the UK has c.760 vineyards, there are less than 100 wineries to process the current grape output and even fewer wineries with the capacity to process any excess harvest. This demand provides an opportunity for Itasca Wines to use its winery to produce wines for itself and other vineyards.

The vineyard has been built on Penn Croft farm, where generations have practised sustainable conservation viticulture methods and principals of farming. These methods have led to improved soil health through the minimising disruption to the soil- structure and increasing carbon storage in the earth while planting of native wildflowers and crops encouraging natural pest and disease control, largely negating the need for chemical pesticides and herbicides, uniquely making Penn Croft vineyards the only vineyards in the UK currently being grown and managed under Conservation Agricultural and Viticulture conservation principals.
